A very strange incident occurred in Mexico, starring an 84-year-old pregnant woman. The woman from Durango, Mexico, shocked paramedics when they discovered that the abdominal pain she was complaining of was actually a fossilized fetus in her womb for more than 4 decades. According to the British newspaper Daily Star, the woman went to a public health clinic due to severe abdominal pain, and upon examination, they found she was carrying a fetus that had no chance of being born for 40 years. Doctors believe the fetus may have calcified, in an extremely rare event called a 'lithopedion' or calcified fetus. These tragic conditions for this rare case usually occur when the fetus dies during pregnancy and is too large for the body to absorb, so it calcifies on the outside as part of a foreign body reaction, which protects the mother's body from the dead fetal tissue and shields her from infection. Paramedics believe the baby died and mummified in the 40th week of pregnancy after its growth stopped normally. Reports also added that it is unlikely that the mother received proper care during her pregnancy about 40 years ago.
