According to INEGI, Ecatepec leads the list of insecurity perception in Mexico, reaching an alarming 88.7%. This reflects a serious problem of crime and fear among its residents.

According to the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI), the municipalities of Ecatepec, Naucalpan de Juárez, Cuautitlán Izcalli, Chimalhuacán, and Tlalnepantla de Baz, in the State of Mexico, stand out as the most insecure in the country, with perception indices of insecurity greater than 60 percent. In Ecatepec, for example, the perception of insecurity reaches 88.7 percent, placing it among the municipalities with the highest sense of danger.

The Inegi survey also revealed that, after the December festivities, ATMs are the places where the Mexican population feels most at risk, followed by public transport, highways, and banks. 68.9 percent of respondents indicated feeling fear at ATMs, while 63.0 percent expressed concern about public transport.

On the other hand, the perception of insecurity at the national level has increased in 18 cities during the period from September to December. In contrast, some cities such as San Pedro Garza García, Piedras Negras, and Los Cabos are highlighted as the least insecure, with figures ranging from 14.0 to 25.1 percent.

Additionally, Inegi warned that 30.9 percent of the population aged 18 and older expects the situation of crime and insecurity in their city to remain equally bad in the next 12 months, while 21.6 percent believe it will worsen. On the other hand, 16.5 percent of respondents believe the situation will improve.

In summary, the municipalities of the State of Mexico lead the national lists of insecurity, with Villahermosa, Tabasco, being the city with the worst perception of insecurity in Mexico, according to INEGI data.
