A strong fire has been reported in a polyurethane and mattress factory in the Santa MarĂa Chiconautla neighborhood, in the municipality of Ecatepec. The incident has generated an intense mobilization of emergency teams, which have concentrated on the streets of Embajada de Egipto and Embajada de Brasil. According to sources, the burning building appears to be an illegal warehouse where materials for repairing and manufacturing mattresses were stored.
Three fire units from the Civil Protection and Firefighters of Ecatepec have arrived at the scene to control the flames that reached over three meters in height. Thanks to the quick action of the emergency teams, the fire did not spread to nearby homes, but the warehouse was completely consumed. Municipal and state police, along with elements of the National Guard, established a security perimeter to prevent access to the area.
So far, there have been no reports of injuries or fatalities, but firefighters continue their extinguishing efforts. Meanwhile, paramedics from local Civil Protection have reported that as a precaution, some residents have abandoned their homes taking documents and valuables with them. Forensics from the Attorney General's Office of the State of Mexico are already on site to determine the causes of the fire and confirm the absence of human victims.
Authorities have announced that they will proceed to close the warehouse if it is confirmed to have operated illegally. Additionally, they have warned about the risk of more fires due to the heat wave in the Mexico Valley region. Neighbors have stated that they had reported the existence of this alleged illegal warehouse several times, but did not receive a response from the municipal authorities.
