A group of people is blocking traffic on Carlos Hank González Avenue in the third section of Ecatepec, State of Mexico, during the morning of this Wednesday, February 26. According to the traffic report from the State of Mexico, the blockage on Central Avenue has caused a traffic jam of about 2.97 kilometers.
The community of neighbors explained that the conflict began last Friday when a supposed 'Directing Board' endorsed by the municipality took control of the access points without prior notice or consultation. "We don't know who they are or why they are here, we only know they do not allow those who work for our safety to enter," said an affected neighbor.
So far, the municipal authorities of Tecámac and the state authorities have not issued any official communication regarding the situation. The neighbors demand to be attended to by representatives of the federal government and claim they will remain in place until they are heard.
Neighbors from several subdivisions in Tecámac blocked the Mexico-Pachuca highway at the height of Boulevard Ojo de Agua in a demonstration called by the Real Firenze A.C. Neighbors Association to demand the intervention of federal authorities regarding the security issues in the communities.
Residents of Real del Sol, Castell, Toscana, Alcalá, Punta Palermo, and Urbi gathered with banners from 6:00 AM denouncing constant harassment and abuse by civilians controlling access to these neighborhoods.
This is a protest by neighbors from about 10 neighborhoods in Ecatepec who have reported a lack of drinking water and the absence of water trucks that previously supplied them. They also indicate that these unidentified individuals prevent the security personnel hired by the residents from doing their job. "We will not allow them to continue abusing us," warned the protesters.
