Unionized workers from the municipality of Ecatepec, in the State of Mexico, blocked the main avenues that cross the northwest area of the Valley of Mexico, creating intense traffic chaos. The blockade points include Av. Central at Gran Canal, Lechería-Texcoco, José López Portillo at the DIF station of Mexibús Line 4, Venta de Carpio, Adolfo López Mateos, the intersection of R1 with Periférico Norte, and the Morelos road at the Greek 'Y'. The protesters demand the payment of overdue benefits since 2019 and a salary increase.
In response to the demonstration, public passenger service and Line 2 of the Mexibús have suspended activities. Additionally, at certain closure points, members of the United Workers Union (Suteym) are blocking the passage of motorcycles, increasing the impact on traffic. This forces thousands of people to walk several kilometers to access public transport stations or use taxis to reach their destinations in Mexico City and the Metropolitan Area.
For motorists needing to traverse the affected area, alternate routes such as the Mexico-Pachuca highway, the Mexiquense Exterior Circuit (CEM), or the Peñón-Texcoco highway are suggested. The Mexibús concessionaire has reported that they will continue operating alternate routes such as La Raza - Clínica 76 and Puente de Fierro (via AIFA highway) while the blockades persist.
The unionized workers stated that they will continue with the blockades until they receive favorable responses to their salary demands. Previously, they held demonstrations in Las Garzas and at water wells, denouncing the authorities' failure to comply with their requests for salary increases and attention to benefits promised four years ago.
