Workers of the City Hall of Ecatepec, State of Mexico, belonging to the Unique Union of State and Municipal Workers (Suteym), carried out a blockade last Tuesday to demand the payment of benefits that are owed to them for more than four years. This action has affected mobility in the locality, including main roads, railway traffic, and water supply in certain areas.
The blockades have taken place at strategic points such as Vía López Portillo at the DIF, Venta de Carpio, Periférico Oriente, Vía Morelos, Avenida Central Río de los Remedios, and the Texcoco-Lechería highway. As part of their protest, the demonstrators closed access to water wells, leaving several neighborhoods without service, and obstructed the train tracks, resulting in the collapse of other avenues.
Among the pending labor benefits are bonuses, retroactive payments for the years 2021, 2022, 2023, and 2024, as well as demands for the delivery of toys for Three Kings Day and Children's Day, uniforms, school supplies, life insurance, and payments for work events. The unionized workers have stated that they will maintain the blockade until they receive a satisfactory response that addresses all their demands, thereby pressuring the government of Ecatepec to comply with the established labor agreement.
