In the Metropolitan Area of Guadalajara (AMG), an increase in cases of "pirate taxis" has been detected, especially near bus terminals. The Secretary of Transportation (Setran) has provided recommendations to help citizens identify these vehicles and avoid risky situations when boarding them.
"Pirate taxis" are vehicles that offer transportation services like regular taxis but without the necessary authorization or regulation. They can be private vehicles or belong to unauthorized companies, whose drivers do not meet the required safety and licensing standards. This poses a danger in case of accidents, as passengers may not be properly insured.
Despite the authorities' efforts to combat pirate transportation in Jalisco, these vehicles continue to operate. Therefore, it is essential for users to verify the authorization and safety of taxis before boarding them, taking necessary precautions.
To identify a pirate taxi, it is important to pay attention to various elements, especially in the case of platform vehicles. Some of these signs include discrepancies in license plates and car characteristics, the driver not matching the photo on the app, presence of blocks on doors and windows, and differences between the starting and destination points.
Until the year 2025, the only authorized platforms to operate in the AMG and Puerto Vallarta are Didi and Uber. Any other platform is considered "pirate" in this area. It is essential to be informed and take precautions when using transportation services to ensure safety when moving around the city.
