The Government of Guadalajara, through the Environment Department, announced that 2.8 tons of electronic waste were collected during the 2026 Electronic Waste Collection Campaign, which was active throughout the month of March. The authorities of Guadalajara highlighted that this strategy prevented these materials from reaching landfills and facilitated the recovery of recyclable components for their reintegration into the value chain.
Installation of collection points and citizen participation It should be recalled that the campaign, which is part of the 'Limpia Guadalajara' public policy, set up 18 collection points in different parts of the city for the reception of electronic waste. Among the established sites, those with the highest collection volume were the Metropolitan Green Points (PVM) with 255 kilograms, the Benito Juárez Administrative Unit with 190 kilograms, and the Environment Department with 118 kilograms. Similarly, it was reported that 60.7% of the total collected, equivalent to 1.7 tons, was concentrated in the centers that operated on weekends.
Types of waste and environmental management The Government of Guadalajara reported that among the collected waste were cell phones, computers, batteries, hard drives, light bulbs, irons, televisions, USB memories, headphones, microphones, radios, and video game consoles. These materials contain substances such as lead, mercury, cadmium, nickel, and antimony, so proper handling is necessary to prevent environmental and health risks. It is worth noting that more than 12 tons of electronic waste are generated daily in Guadalajara.
Continuation of collection campaigns throughout the year The Environment Department recalled that two collection campaigns are held per year. In 2025, 6.4 tons of electronic waste were collected. To conclude, they emphasized that these efforts are part of the strategies to reduce waste disposal in landfills and promote proper waste management practices.
