Mexico Revives Rescue Capsule Phoenix for Trapped Miners

Mexico revives the rescue capsule Phoenix to save trapped miners. This story connects two geographies: Sinaloa, where rescue operations continue, and Guanajuato, where the famous capsule is being sent. The municipal government has made available the Phoenix 2 rescue capsule, a specialized tool donated by the Chilean government to Guanajuato in 2016. 'If the rescue team decides so and requests it, we will send it immediately to contribute to the efforts,' stated the mayor. This capsule is not just any piece of equipment. It was designed for one of the most complex operations in recent history: the rescue of 33 miners trapped for 69 days at a depth of more than 700 meters in the San José mine in the Atacama Desert in 2010. Since then, its name has become associated with an idea: to survive. On Saturday night, Mayor Samantha Smith confirmed the case and detailed that the municipal government had already established contact with the family of the worker, Abraham Aguilar, as well as with the authorities coordinating the rescue in the area. 'I had the opportunity to speak with his wife... we have reiterated our support and we remain attentive to provide accompaniment,' said Samantha Smith, mayor of Guanajuato. Hours later, the President of Mexico announced that one of the four trapped miners had been located and rescued alive, opening a window of hope amid the ongoing efforts in the region. But the announcement did not stop there.
