The general director of the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS), Zoé Robledo, reported that the new General Hospital in Guanajuato capital will open its doors in September 2025 as part of a national strategy to strengthen hospital infrastructure in the country.
IMSS detailed that this new medical unit in Guanajuato will have 72 hospitalization beds, 29 medical offices, 3 operating rooms equipped with cutting-edge technology, and more than 150 specialist doctors to serve the insured population. The main objective will be to expedite medical attention, reduce congestion in other hospitals in the region, and improve access to health services for the inhabitants of Guanajuato capital and nearby municipalities.
Although the opening was initially scheduled for June, the construction of the hospital experienced delays, which postponed its operation until September 2025. The new infrastructure will be located in the Yerbabuena neighborhood of the capital.
This hospital is part of a broader plan that includes the inauguration of 15 new medical units in different states of the country such as Baja California, Chiapas, Puebla, Mexico City, Yucatan, among others. Additionally, family medicine units will be launched in Coahuila, Sonora, Mexico State, Yucatán, and Nuevo León, with the purpose of expanding health service coverage and ensuring quality care for the insured population.
IMSS reiterated its commitment to improving medical attention in the state of Guanajuato, ensuring that the new hospital unit will be essential for alleviating the demand for services and providing timely care to patients. It is expected that in the coming weeks more details will be announced about the opening and the services available at the hospital when it starts operating in 2025.
