Gerardo Vázquez Alatriste has been appointed Attorney General of the state of Guanajuato after receiving 25 votes in favor in Congress. Vázquez Alatriste holds a law degree, a Master's in Prosecution, Administration of Justice, and Oral Litigation, and a Doctorate in Anticorruption and Justice System.

His experience includes serving as Delegate of the Attorney General's Office in several states, General Coordinator of Investigations in the then Attorney General's Office, as well as Federal Public Prosecutor in Sonora and Baja California. Additionally, he has been General Subdelegate in Baja California Sur and Delegate in Sonora, leading FGR offices in those entities.

Initially, Vázquez Alatriste received 23 votes in the voting, followed by 1 vote for Hernández Martínez and 1 vote for Aguado Silva, while 11 legislators abstained. After a second round of voting among the two candidates with the most support, he was finally appointed as Attorney General of the state.

There was significant debate in Congress prior to the vote. Legislators who opposed pointed out the lack of autonomy, corruption, and impunity faced by the Attorney General's Office, arguing that the appointment of Vázquez Alatriste meant a continuation of the previous administration. On the other hand, those who supported his appointment defended the transparency of the process and highlighted his suitable and experienced profile in criminal justice in Guanajuato.

After several rounds of voting, Congress approved the appointment of Vázquez Alatriste as Attorney General of the state, who will take office for seven years starting next Monday. The final vote resulted in 25 votes in favor, 11 against, and 10 abstentions, thus consolidating his appointment following a selection process that included the evaluation of a shortlist of other candidates.
