In a joint session of the United Commissions of Public Security and Communications and for Gender Equality, the Congress of Guanajuato has approved the mandatory creation of the Gender Violence Response Unit. This specialized unit will aim to prevent and address crimes against women, ensuring their presence in the State's Public Security System.
Deputy Susana Bermúdez Cano highlighted that this decision represents a fundamental legislative advance to ensure that women, girls, and adolescents have access to a life free of violence. "Now it will be a legal requirement within the public security system, ensuring that each region has this attention and prevention body," explained the deputy.
Additionally, the initiative also includes the need for training and capacity building with a gender and intersectionality focus for the authorities responsible for assisting victims. The goal is to ensure an adequate and sensitive response to cases of gender violence.
Maribel Aguilar González, another congresswoman, stated that this measure is an ethical imperative to settle the historical debt with women who have been victims of violence. "Denying this support would be ignoring the cry for help from girls, women, mothers, and the elderly; it would be failing the victims whose cases remain unpunished," emphasized Aguilar.
Deputy José Erandi Bermúdez Méndez, president of the United Commissions, stressed the importance of this reform by elevating the existence of these specialized units to the level of law, preventing their implementation from being at the discretion of municipalities.
