Members of the collective Buscadoras por la Paz informed about the discovery of 35 clandestine graves where it's estimated there are more than 50 victims of disappearance, in a clandestine cemetery of organized crime along a rural road heading to the coast of Hermosillo, Sonora.
Since the discovery on Tuesday, January 28, the area has been inspected by forensic experts from the Scientific Intelligence Laboratory of the Justice Prosecutor's Office, personnel from the State Commission for the Search of Disappeared Persons, agents of the National Guard and the Criminal Investigation Agency, as well as dozens of women who are part of the collectives, supporting authorities to recover and identify the bodies.
The Attorney General of Justice in Sonora, Gustavo Rómulo Salas Chávez, confirmed the discovery and reported that processing the crime scene to recover the human remains will take several weeks, and that the identity and number of victims will be determined through genetic comparative tests.
Cecilia Delgado Grijalva, founder of Buscadoras por la Paz, commented that the collective received several anonymous messages that led them to the location where the clandestine graves were found. According to Delgado, these activists found 35 graves on Highway 26 that connects Hermosillo with Bahía de Kino, at kilometer 20 in the bed of a stream.
"It’s a soft place for them to dig their graves, and here no one sees them, and if they do see them, no one says anything," added Delgado. The Guerreras Buscadoras from Guaymas and Empalme joined in solidarity to the searches conducted in the area. Additionally, a year ago, near this location, 53 bodies were found in the graves of El Choyudo, all victims from the valley of Guaymas.
Among the mothers searching for their disappeared loved ones, Synthia Maritza Gutiérrez made a call for the criminals to stop leaving the bodies exposed. "Know that as mothers it’s very painful, and we ask you to leave them exposed."
