Elements of the Secretariat of National Defense (Defense) and the National Guard (GN) supported the Federal Attorney for Environmental Protection (Profepa) in an operation carried out in Huitzilac, Morelos. The main objective was to put an end to illegal hunting in the Bosque de Agua, located in an area of the Wildlife Flora and Fauna Protection Area known as the "Chichinautzin Biological Corridor."

During the operation, a dead white-tailed deer, eight hunting weapons, and two vehicles abandoned by poachers were secured. The deer and the evidence were placed at the disposal of the Federal Public Ministry for the corresponding proceedings.

"This crime warrants penalties of between one and nine years in prison and fines ranging from 300 to three thousand days of fines," emphasized Profepa. Upon receiving a complaint about the presence of poachers in the community of Coajomulco, in Huitzilac, the operation was launched, during which the weapons were seized, and the deer's carcass was found. Subsequently, a complaint was filed with the Attorney General's Office (FGR), and an administrative procedure will be initiated against those responsible for this illegal activity in an area without a record of a Wildlife Management Unit (UMA).

Bosque de Agua, part of the Chichinautzin Biological Corridor, is a key area for migratory birds that travel the central route from North America during summer and winter. Covering more than 37,000 hectares, this corridor has been a protected area since November 30, 1988, when the decree designating it as such was issued. Profepa reaffirmed its commitment to continue inspections in this area to prevent illicit activities and protect the wildlife flora and fauna in the protected area.
