Fraudulent Milk Operations Exposed in Irapuato

In Guanajuato, authorities have uncovered a nefarious milk diversion scheme that has generated million-dollar losses. In Irapuato, it has been estimated that these fraudulent operations caused losses of up to 13 million pesos a month. In light of this situation, the Secretariat of Security and Peace has called on citizens to report any illegal activities anonymously to the number 089, with the aim of continuing to combat crime and ensure safety in the state.

Recently, as part of ongoing actions to protect productive cycles, the State Public Security Forces (FSPE) managed to secure an illegal milk warehouse in the community of Santa Rosa Plan de Ayala, in León, Guanajuato. This operation was the result of intelligence work and citizen reports.

In the illegal warehouse, a couple was arrested: Cristian “N” (34 years old) and José “N” (41 years old), who were unloading milk from a tanker to then deposit it into drums with the intention of selling it clandestinely. After being caught in the act, both were placed at the disposal of the relevant authorities. In addition to securing the location, several items were seized, including a tractor-trailer, a tanker truck with 34,000 liters of milk, a pump, a hose, and 38 drums containing 7,000 liters of milk.

It is estimated that the total amount of milk confiscated, which amounted to 41,000 liters, represented an illicit gain of 900,000 pesos for those involved. These fraudulent activities affect the quality and hygiene of the final food products, while generating significant economic losses for the agri-food sector. Preliminary investigations indicate that this scheme operated similarly to another case that occurred in January in the community of La Calera, in Irapuato, where a milk diversion system was discovered in which transporters replaced the missing product with water before delivering it to the regulated plants. A growing problem that requires firm actions to protect public health and maintain the integrity of dairy products in the market.
