On the night of Tuesday, November 12, 2024, a video went viral on social media showing a man 'wrapped up' on the streets of Jiutepec, Morelos. Citizens had alerted the authorities, indicating that it was a corpse, but upon arriving at the scene, they discovered that it was a man simply sleeping.
The individual, homeless, had wrapped himself in a blanket to protect himself from the cold while resting on the streets of Jiutepec. However, when seen by passersby who thought the worst, confusion erupted, and it was soon believed to be a lifeless body. This led to a swift police intervention.
Once on the scene, authorities removed the blanket covering the man and confirmed that he was alive. According to journalist Paco Zea, the man asked authorities to let him continue sleeping, as he had consumed an alcoholic beverage to rest better.
It is important to remember that in Mexico, especially during Claudia Sheinbaum's government, over 1,300 homicides have been reported during her term. In light of this harsh reality, if someone encounters a corpse on the streets, it is recommended to remain calm, not to touch or interfere with the scene, and immediately contact the relevant authorities via emergency number 911 to report the discovery and provide the exact location.
