The 76th International Film Festival in León

The 76th International Film Showcase of the Cineteca Nacional arrives in León from February 20 to 28 with a selection of films of great visual and narrative impact. Screenings will take place at Plaza de Gallos every day at 7:00 PM, with free entry for the public.

This year's showcase features nine films from different parts of the world, such as Spain, France, the United States, Iran, the Netherlands, Argentina, Chile, Taiwan, and Mexico. Each of these films addresses deep themes such as memory, identity, love, loss, and forced displacement, offering a reflective and exciting experience for attendees.

Among the most notable films in this edition are: "Profundo Carmesí" (Mexico-Spain-France, 1996), by Arturo Ripstein, in a restored version with unpublished scenes; "Memoria" (Mexico-United States, 2023), by Michel Franco, which explores a love story with a hopeful ending; "Simón de la montaña" (Argentina-Chile-Uruguay, 2024), awarded at Cannes with a unique perspective on a marginalized community; and "Cerrar los ojos" (Spain-Argentina, 2023), the anticipated return of director Víctor Erice after three decades of absence.

In addition to showcasing recent premieres with significant international recognition, the exhibition will include a section dedicated to restored classics, allowing viewers to rediscover stories that have marked global cinema. This event, organized by the Cultural Institute of León (ICL), aims to bring the community closer to great works of cinema and generate spaces for dialogue around stories that have transcended generations.

Screenings will take place from February 20 to 28 at Plaza de Gallos at 7:00 PM. Admission is free, so attendees are encouraged to arrive early to secure a good spot.
