The city of León reaffirmed its position as the capital of footwear by inaugurating the 92nd edition of the Leather and Footwear Fair (Sapica), the most prominent event in the sector in Latin America. During the ceremony, the municipal president, Ale Gutiérrez, emphasized the importance of this industry for local identity and economy, highlighting the resilience and ability of footwear workers to reinvent themselves.
"Here, trends are not only set and quality guaranteed, but alliances and businesses are forged that last for generations. Sapica places us in the global spotlight," said Gutiérrez. More than 14,000 attendees from 17 countries are expected at this edition, with the participation of 380 companies and over 2,400 brands, projecting an economic impact of 43 million pesos.
Daniela Reyes de Luna, president of Sapica, highlighted the sector’s strength by combining tradition and technology to continue its growth. "Footwear remains the heart of León and despite challenges, it will remain one of our most emblematic industries," stated Reyes de Luna.
During the inaugural ceremony, the "Forgers of the Industry" award was presented in honor of workers who have dedicated between 30 and 58 years to the sector, where Víctor Manuel Muñoz Valle, with 58 years of experience, received the day’s highest recognition.
Among the main activities of Sapica 2025 are a fashion runway showcasing the latest trends in footwear and leather goods, a concert by the band Reik as part of the celebration of the event, specialized conferences on innovation, sustainability, and new technologies in the industry, an exhibition area with more than 2,400 national and international brands, and networking spaces to strengthen business ties between entrepreneurs and buyers.
With the participation of Libia Dennise García Muñoz Ledo, governor of Guanajuato, and Mauricio Blas Battaglia, president of the Footwear Industry Chamber, Sapica continues to establish itself as a fundamental pillar for León's economy and its projection at a global level.
