The councilor of Movimiento Ciudadano, Dessire Ángel Rocha, has pointed out that Parque Explora in León has experienced overcrowding during various events, which affects its ecological environment due to the so-called "carrying capacity." In response to this issue, she proposed an initiative to establish a capacity limit to help mitigate ecological damage and allow for the restoration of the flora and fauna of the Park.
In a city council session, Dessire proposed to consider Parque Explora as an urban park so that it becomes part of the city's management and does not depend solely on the León State Fair. In this way, it is proposed that the city council have the authority to set the venue's carrying limits, with the aim of protecting its ecological environment.
Parque Explora, recognized as one of the main lungs of León, is at risk according to the councilor, as its carrying capacity has been exceeded in mass events. Dessire mentioned that there is currently no ruling regulating the number of people who can attend the park without causing ecological damage, which has led to events with an excessive number of attendees, reaching in some cases up to 7,000 people in three days, which could have irreparable consequences for the environment.
Parque Explora, which covers around 25 hectares and is located near the city center, has open-air auditoriums, museums, and green areas for community interaction. Dessire Ángel Rocha called for the protection of ecological activities in this important natural space.
