León Implements Electric Routes in 2025

Starting in March 2025, León will implement two electric routes in the Integrated Transport System (SIT), marking a significant advancement in sustainable mobility. These new buses will operate on clean energy from solar cells, aiming to fully electrify Line 1 of the SIT by that same year.

Pilot tests have been conducted with models from companies like Yutong and BYD to evaluate the autonomy, charging times, and performance of these electric buses on urban routes. Additionally, the aim is to improve air quality in the city and provide more efficient transportation for SIT users, in line with global sustainability trends.

The collaboration between the local administration and the private sector has been key in the development of this model, which could extend to other SIT lines in the future. The first routes where these electric buses will operate will be Express E-4 and Trunk X-74, marking the beginning of the transition to electric mobility in León.

The main goal of this initiative is to reduce pollutant emissions and operational costs, as electric buses require less maintenance compared to traditional ones. With positive results in the tests, the project is expected to advance according to its implementation plan, starting with the electrification of part of the SIT fleet in March 2025.
