Before the sun beats down on the center of León, when the stone starts to heat up and commerce is barely waking up, Alejandro “el Gallo” and Rocky are already ready to break the inertia of the start of the week. He is Rocky, the cleanest dog in León. Alejandro has been taking his dog to work for a month. The dog, Rocky. —“Rocky because he is a real fighter,” he says, without stopping to pet him to explain why he chose this name for this five-year-old mongrel, a gift from his son. One month, one dog, and many looks. Rocky arrived just a month ago. “My son gave it to me when he was little… and I raised him myself,” Alejandro recounts. Since then, they have not been separated. He lets himself be dressed, he lets himself be loved. —“Let's see what happens,” Alejandro explains about the improvised uniform. What happened was bigger than expected. In a profession that rarely makes headlines, Alejandro and Rocky have become, without intending to, a small exception. —“We are already number one here in the plaza,” he says with a laugh, as if talking about a team. Rocky is five years old. He already gets on the cart. They clean the streets of the center together and now Rocky is the new sensation in the center of León. A man in a fluorescent green uniform — the kind that usually goes unnoticed despite its strident color — bends down, smiles, and carefully holds a small dog that is also in uniform. The contrast is immediate: hard work and play, routine and surprise. The man's name is Alejandro. He doesn't get nervous. Even in such a heavy job. What we do see when we stop.
