Educational authorities have announced that classes at the Official High School of the University of Guanajuato in León will resume on a date later than scheduled, as an inspection by Civil Protection will be carried out to assess the damage occurred in the classrooms near the auditorium, which was consumed by a fire around 4 in the morning.
Although there were no people in the location at the time of the fire, it is suspected that a short circuit may have been the cause of the incident, which left the auditorium unusable. Firefighters and Civil Protection managed to control the flames after about four hours, preventing them from spreading to other areas of the institution.
The University of Guanajuato has not issued an official statement about the incident but has communicated the suspension of classes to students and administrative staff via email. Many students were surprised upon arriving at the institution for their morning classes, finding emergency operations underway.
The candidates for the institution who were supposed to take their admission exam that same day were impacted by the fire, as the auditorium was the designated place for the administration of such tests. Despite the situation, it is expected that once the problems caused by the fire are resolved, academic activities can resume normally.
