A exemplary sentence of 150 years in prison, without the possibility of parole, marks the judicial conclusion of the crime that shocked León nearly a decade ago. Juan Humberto 'N' was found guilty of murdering his mother, father, and two of his siblings on the night of October 5, 2015, in the 10 de Mayo neighborhood.
Investigations conducted by experts and criminalists revealed that Juan Humberto armed himself and broke into the family home, located on Madre Gloria Street, with the intention of stealing money from a safe. When discovered, he opened fire at close range, ending the lives of his four family members within a few minutes. Ballistic evidence, testimonies from neighbors, and the reconstruction of events allowed the State Attorney General's Office (FGE) to sustain the charges of homicide based on kinship, femicide, and qualified homicide.
In addition to the 150-year prison sentence, Juan Humberto will have to pay a fine whose amount was not specified and cover the damages to the surviving family members. The FGE has highlighted that this sentence is one of the most severe imposed under the traditional justice system in Guanajuato, sending a message of 'zero tolerance for impunity.'
During the trial, the Public Prosecutor detailed that the accused tried to escape but was captured days later due to the dissemination of an arrest warrant and monitoring of security cameras. In delivering the sentence, the judge emphasized the 'extreme violence' employed and the 'irreparable loss' for the family members, reasons for which any legal benefits were denied.
