Ex-mayor Arrested for Extortion in Metepec

The Attorney General's Office of the State of Mexico (FGJEM) has confirmed the arrest of María del Rosario "N", former mayor of Santo Tomás de los Plátanos, for alleged extortion. An arrest warrant was executed for this crime, and she will be placed in a state prison at the disposal of the Judicial Authority to resolve her legal situation.

In the same operation, the detained woman's daughter was located, who, according to her father's accounts, had disappeared. María del Rosario "N" is the wife of the elected mayor of the PT, Pedro Luis "N", who fled when authorities tried to detain him during his inauguration in mid-December. Later, Pedro Luis "N" appeared in a video accusing authorities of politically persecuting him and mentioning the detention of 15 people who supported his candidacy for alleged extortion, including his daughter.

The man remains a fugitive, and both he and his wife are alleged to have links with the criminal group La Familia Michoacana, which is said to have financed his campaign with 15 million pesos. According to the Mexican authorities, the couple led a group dedicated to intimidating and extorting residents in the area, resulting in the detention of 15 people, including relatives and former officials, for alleged links with the criminal network led by María del Rosario and Pedro Luis "N".

The arrest of María del Rosario "N" was carried out on Thursday night in Metepec, as part of Operation Swarm, with the support of the Secretariat of National Defense and the Secretariat of Security of the State of Mexico. The judicial authority will soon resolve the legal situation of the detainee in this alleged extortion case.
