Oxxo Launches Bakery Pilot Program in Monterrey

The Oxxo chain has started pilot tests of its German bakery Ditsch in some of its branches. This bakery is operated by the company Valora in Europe, and now Femsa will test the fine bakery concept in Monterrey for a couple of months. Subsequently, an expansion plan for Nuevo León and all of Mexico will be defined, according to company executives.

Ximena Reynoard, director of foodservice at Oxxo Mexico, explained that the pilot tests will take place in a couple of branches over the next few months to then make decisions about the expansion. Reynoard mentioned that it will not take long to plan the growth of this concept, but it is important to learn from the experience of these first stores.

Regarding raw materials, Reynoard pointed out that the dough used in Ditsch in Monterrey is imported from Germany and the United States. Despite this, all products are baked daily in the branches, where a variety of foods are prepared, not just bread. Furthermore, let's remember that in 2022, Femsa acquired Valora, becoming one of the leading pretzel manufacturers globally thanks to the incorporation of the Ditsch brand.

Oxxo has highlighted that one of its bets is the development of "foodvenience," offering prepared, fresh, and hot foods, similar to what is found in Europe. Within this concept are its own brands such as O'Sabor, Doña Tota, Andatti, and Ditsch, as well as products from Krispy Kreme and Qualtia Foods, among others.
