Decrease in Registrations in Modality 40 in Monterrey

The reduction in registrations for Modality 40 in Monterrey is attributed to audits by the IMSS. The increase in fees affects the future of pensions, with prolonged waiting times for approvals.

Decrease in Registrations in Modality 40 in Monterrey

Last year, Nuevo León experienced a decrease in the number of people registered in IMSS's Modality 40, also known as voluntary continuation in the mandatory regime. This decline is mainly attributed to a more precise review by the organization, rather than an increase in the costs of this scheme.

According to Cintya Ovalle, a pension expert, the increase in the payment of Modality 40 does not cause those registered to drop out, as they would lose what they have invested. This increase means that those already registered do not raise their daily salary, as they would have to pay more. Despite remaining with the same salary, the payment is higher due to the percentage increase.

Ovalle pointed out that not updating the registered daily salary in Modality 40 will result in retirements with lower amounts, but it is preferable to dropping out and losing the investment. In recent years, IMSS has conducted thorough audits to review the payments of this modality, leading to greater accuracy in the records.

IMSS data reveals that at the end of last year, Nuevo León had 34,380 people registered in Modality 40, making it the second entity with the most registrations after Mexico City. However, there were 2,236 fewer registrations than in December 2023.

Due to the detailed reviews, IMSS is taking up to three months to register a drop from Modality 40 and a similar amount of time to approve the pension, meaning that people can lose up to six months in this process. This delay in procedures has led to a lower number of registrations in the entity compared to previous years.
