Hyundai Targets New Markets for Tucson Production

Hyundai continues Tucson production in Monterrey, Mexico, shifting marketing towards countries with free trade agreements amid U.S. tariff concerns. Authorities assure jobs remain secure despite global economic pressures.

Hyundai Targets New Markets for Tucson Production

The company Hyundai has decided to allocate the production of its Tucson model to other countries with which Mexico has free trade agreements. This measure has been confirmed by authorities and the manufacturer itself in light of the tariffs imposed by the United States on vehicles imported outside of the USMCA.

Hyundai Mexico has clarified that it will not transfer its manufacturing of cars made in Mexico due to US tariffs, but it will explore new markets for the model manufactured in Nuevo León. The production of Hyundai vehicles in Mexico will remain, while the manufacturing of the Tucson model specifically will be directed towards markets with trade agreements with the country.

Amid the imposition of a 25 percent tariff on imported cars to the United States, some manufacturers have considered the possibility of relocating their global production to that country to avoid the fees. However, in the case of Hyundai in Mexico, production will remain in the country, with the marketing of the Tucson model being directed towards other markets with which trade agreements are maintained.

Marcelo Ebrard, Secretary of Economy, has confirmed that the Japanese manufacturer will continue its manufacturing in Nuevo León, although the possibility of changing the marketing to other markets is being evaluated to avoid the impacts of the tariffs imposed by the United States.

In this context, other manufacturers such as Nissan, Infiniti, Stellantis, and Honda have also announced adjustments in production, export, and operation pauses from Mexico due to the current situation in the automotive industry and tariff threats from the US government.
