The current challenge of closing the digital gap between different sectors is a priority due to its annual growth and cost to companies. Ángeles Vela, director of the Software Council of Nuevo León, emphasized the need for coordinated actions between universities, companies, and the government to achieve this goal.
Vela highlighted the importance of the human resources area of companies actively participating in the understanding of generative artificial intelligence and closing the digital gap. The lack of coordination between different sectors has created difficulties in reducing this gap and has led to significant costs.
For his part, Álvaro García, vice president of Human Resources at Grupo Prodensa, emphasized the gaps between the skills that companies seek and the competencies of candidates. García mentioned that candidates are often discarded for lack of necessary skills, which highlights the importance of closing the gap between job expectations and individuals' capabilities.
In the panel on the future talent at the incMTY Summit 2024, David Romero, professor of Advanced Manufacturing at Tec de Monterrey, pointed out that the digital gap represents an additional 1.8% of Mexico's GDP and that the lack of skills further widens this gap. Romero emphasized the need to train people in technological and green skills to drive economic growth.
Jorge Azzario, director of Digital Academy at Tec de Monterrey, mentioned that only 5% of university graduates in Mexico come from digital technology fields. Moreover, he highlighted that foreign companies attract the most talented Mexican professionals, making it difficult for national companies to access this talent.
Finally, Jesús Schucry, director of the Department of Human Development, Education, and Employment at the Organization of American States (OAS), emphasized that digital, green, demographic transitions and informality are impacting the labor market. These challenges require coordinated and urgent actions to close the digital gap and adapt to the new demands of the labor market.
