In Monterrey, the permanence or modification of the contraflow on Avenida Gonzalitos will be determined at the end of this week, after a trial began on a stretch of 3.5 kilometers in the south-to-north direction. Emmanuel Acevedo, director of Road Safety in the city, highlighted that the signage work as well as the entrances and exits were completed on Sunday.
"We will conduct tests for two weeks to verify how long the contraflow lane can remain open and whether the opening, the start of the contraflow is correct or if it needs to be moved further back or further forward," clarified the official from the Secretariat of Sustainable Urban Development (Seduso).
The main objective of this measure is to reduce the travel time of motorists commuting from Monterrey to San Pedro by 75% during peak morning hours. This route will be operational exclusively for light vehicles and it is estimated that it could be used by approximately 1,500 vehicles per hour, according to studies conducted.
For now, the traffic signs have been installed provisionally and it is expected that at the end of these tests, a definitive signaling and the necessary adjustments to improve the effectiveness of the contraflow on Avenida Gonzalitos can be defined.
