75th Anniversary of the Perpetual Help Temple

On February 19, the Temple of Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Monterrey will commemorate the 75th anniversary of the laying of the first stone of this emblematic church, located in the heart of the city center, with a series of events. Father Adalberto L. Alfaro López, rector of Perpetual Help and Dolores, highlighted the historical significance of this date.

"On February 19, 1950, the first stone of the Temple of Perpetual Help was laid to meet the growing demand of parishioners who already exceeded the capacity of the Temple of Our Lady of Dolores," he recalled. "We want to share this anniversary with all who are part of our community and those who have been part of the history of this temple," he expressed.

Since its construction, both the Temple of Our Lady of Dolores and the Temple of Perpetual Help have witnessed numerous historical moments, such as the one that occurred in May 1912, when relatives of then-president Francisco I. Madero came to pray for peace in Mexico. Over the years, both temples have been the scenes of important events for the city of Monterrey and its inhabitants.

These temples are not only spaces for prayer but also places to encounter the history and faith of the people of Monterrey, being symbols of devotion to the Virgin of Perpetual Help. "This event marked the beginning of a work that, to this day, remains a pillar of our religious community," said Alfaro López.

Alfaro López indicated that it should not be forgotten to celebrate that 75 years ago, Monsignor Guillermo Tritschler y Córdoba, the VII Archbishop of Monterrey, blessed the first stone for the construction of the Sanctuary of Perpetual Help. "The Redemptorist family made up of parishioners and Redemptorist missionaries wants to thank God for such a beautiful place where for generations we gather under the tender and loving gaze of our Mother, the Virgin of Perpetual Help," he added.

The Temple of Perpetual Help and its neighbor, the Temple of Our Lady of Dolores, are recognized not only for their religious significance but also for their architectural and artistic value. These temples, located in downtown Monterrey, are unique in the city for their proximity and architectural characteristics, with interiors that reflect the history of Monterrey and the devotion to the Virgin of Perpetual Help.

As part of the celebrations, the Rectory of the Temple of Perpetual Help will begin the first stage of renovation, which will consist of painting and restoration work to preserve its legacy. Alfaro López extended a cordial invitation to the entire community to participate in these events.
