In the framework of the UANLeer University Book Fair 2025, the Editorial Merit Award has been given to Nikolás Kanellos, who is the director of Arte Público Press. The University of Houston has been designated as the Guest of Honor for this event, which was inaugurated by Santos Guzmán López in the Aula Magna of the University Cultural Center at 16:55 hours.
In his opening speech, the rector of UANL highlighted the university's commitment to the dissemination of knowledge and the arts, emphasizing that the University Book Fair consolidates its vocation as a promoter of critical thinking in this fifteenth edition. Among the attendees were local authorities and international guests, such as Melissa Segura, Secretary of Culture of the State, Cristina Rivera Garza, director of the Creative Writing program at the University of Houston, and Renu Khator, director of the same educational institution.
The celebration of written words and cultural exchange are fundamental pillars of UANLeer, which will take place from March 12 to 16. "It reflects the power of poetry to transcend borders," said Guzmán López during the inauguration ceremony. In his acceptance speech, Kanellos expressed his commitment to defending Hispanic literature and literature in Spanish, highlighting that there are no barriers that can separate us.
One of the highlighted events of UANLeer 2025 was the presentation of the book "Academy of Firefighters of Nuevo León," which marked the start of more than 200 scheduled activities, such as conferences, book presentations, and film screenings. The participation of high school and college students from the Autonomous University of Nuevo León further enriches this literary gathering.
As Guillermo Guzmán López mentioned, "literature is a tool that transforms and gives voice to growth," referring to the book "Student Manual" written by Víctor Antonio Pedraza de Garza, a graduate of the institution, which will also be part of the fair's activities.
