The Federal Consumer Prosecutor's Office (Profeco) issued an alert about the increase in fraud related to the sale of tickets for non-existent events and shows, especially through online platforms. According to the office, at least two events were falsely announced at the Fundidora Park in Monterrey, which were also promoted at the GNP Seguros Stadium in Mexico City and the Metropolitan Park in Guadalajara, without any record of their occurrence.
Profeco called on consumers to exercise caution and always verify that tickets are purchased through official platforms. It recommended checking the schedule on the venues' websites to confirm the authenticity of the events. In the words of the Prosecutor's Office: 'It is essential to check for reviews, whether the event is listed at the location where it will take place, and to avoid purchases on pages that display prices in dollars or foreign currency without also showing the cost in Mexican pesos.'
It was also reminded that Article 34 of the Federal Consumer Protection Law establishes that all advertising and prices must be expressed in Spanish and in national currency, without exception. Profeco urged the public to report any irregularities or possible fraud through the Consumer Phone: 55 5568 8722 and 800 468 8722.
In summary, due to the increase in fraud involving the sale of tickets for fictitious events, Profeco has recommended that consumers verify the authenticity of events on official sites and report any suspicious situations to avoid being victims of scams.
