On Monday, Governor Samuel García started the construction of the Airport Station of Line 6 of the Metro. According to García, this station will connect Apodaca, San Nicolás, Guadalupe, Monterrey, and Escobedo, allowing for world-class mobility in the region.
The Airport Station will become the largest terminal in the Americas and the only one in Mexico. García stated: "After 40 years of only focusing on building lanes, today we want to reverse that and have the mobility that we should have always had." He emphasized the importance of reaching the airport via mass public transportation, following the example of first-world cities.
Metrorrey, in charge of the project, revealed images of what the station will look like, featuring a modern design and escalators. It will be located in front of Terminal A of the Monterrey International Airport. The station will have the capacity to connect travelers and residents of Nuevo León more quickly to the airport, while also providing access to all Metro lines and the public transport network of the metropolitan area.
The Airport Station will be strategic, serving 70% of the state's population. Metrorrey emphasized that the first train will arrive before morning flights, making it a convenient transport option for everyone. Samuel García mentioned that this station will become the most emblematic, representing Monterrey for foreign visitors of the 2026 World Cup, redefining public transport in the region.
