Viva and Aerus Sign Groundbreaking Code-Share Agreement

Two Mexican airlines, Viva and Aerus, have reached a code-sharing agreement, something that has not happened in the country for 20 years. This alliance will allow greater connectivity to both national and international destinations.

Javier Suárez, Executive Vice President of Strategy, Planning, and Alliances at Viva, explained that thanks to this agreement, passengers will be able to purchase a single ticket for an itinerary involving flights from both airlines. For example, a traveler could depart from Piedras Negras on an Aerus plane and arrive from Monterrey to Puerto Vallarta on an Airbus from Viva.

For his part, Javier Herrera García, CEO of Aerus, mentioned that this alliance will represent a significant increase in occupancy and schedules for the Monterrey-based airline. He highlighted that, in addition to offering more destinations, frequencies, schedules, and available operations will be increased.

The alliance is already in effect and includes the current national and international destinations of both airlines, as well as future routes that both will open, both regular and seasonal. According to Suárez, this long-term partnership with Aerus will benefit both companies, allowing Aerus to expand its frequencies and open new routes.

By joining with Aerus, Viva becomes the airline with the greatest coverage in Mexico. Its passengers will be able to reach cities to which, due to restrictions related to airport size, Viva's operation with Airbus 320 and 321 planes was not possible. Some of these new destinations include Minatitlán, Piedras Negras, Laredo, and Brownsville, strengthening Viva's presence in Texas.

By combining their connectivity networks, Viva and Aerus will offer passengers the possibility to connect with 130 routes to 37 destinations, both national and international.
