Governor of Mexico Unveils Liberty Park Renovation Project

Governor Samuel García Sepúlveda of Nuevo León presented the comprehensive renovation project for Liberty Park in Monterrey. The project, 40% complete, aims to transform the former Topo Chico prison into a modern cultural and community center with parks, a museum, and recreational areas. The goal is to give new life to a place once associated with violence.

The governor stated: "Liberty Park will be one of the most beautiful parks in Mexico." García Sepúlveda specified that to date, 1,000 trees have been planted, four plazas, playgrounds, sports courts, urban gardens, community centers have been built, and the new Topo Chico Museum is under construction. "We are going to give wings to many children so they can dream, have artificial intelligence here, books, a library, we will have the entire cultural and artistic spectrum here," García Sepúlveda emphasized. The supervision began at the new Dog Park, which covers 1,087 square meters for companion animals. Next, state authorities moved along one side of the space and planted an ebony tree, a native species of the region, as a symbolic act to reaffirm the current administration's commitment to the environment. Subsequently, the delegation traveled along the tree-lined corridor to make a stop at the Coexistence Center, then at the Plaza Verde games area, and another at the old prison building, where a tour of the lobby area was given. Although Liberty Park was inaugurated in 2021, the site was abandoned and its potential remained limited. Governor Samuel García Sepúlveda toured the works of the "Liberty Park" project, which is 40% complete, with the aim of continuing the renovation of the Topo Chico Social Rehabilitation Center. Accompanied by the head of AMAR in Nuevo León, Mariana Rodríguez; and the secretaries of Citizen Participation, Daniel Acosta; Environment, Raúl Lozano; and Culture, Melissa Segura, the state head highlighted that the objective is to bring life to what was once a place of violence. "We have been very prudent in considering all neighbors, and today we already have a project that is 40 percent complete." "We are at what will be a symbol of the new Nuevo León. Hence, the comprehensive rehabilitation includes improving infrastructure, equipment, and green areas, ensuring accessibility for all people." "This prison will have life, it will have ideas."
