Preparations for the Day of the Dead in Monterrey

In the upcoming Day of the Dead season, the four municipal cemeteries of Monterrey expect to receive approximately 50,000 visitors. For this reason, the municipal government, through the Public Services Secretary, has started cleaning, weeding, and fumigation work in the San Jorge, Valle Verde, Estanzuela, and Topo Chico cemeteries.

The teams in charge of these tasks are conducting weeding, painting, tree pruning, removal of garbage and debris in the municipal cemeteries. Additionally, fumigation, maintenance of lighting, reconstruction of walls, application of herbicides, and maintenance of restrooms and buttresses are being carried out.

To ensure the safety of visitors, Public Services has implemented an operation in conjunction with the Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection of the municipality for the days of November 1 and 2, considered the busiest days. The mayor of Monterrey, Adrián de la Garza, has emphasized the importance of preparing the spaces dignifiedly and safely to prevent accidents and reduce the risks of insect proliferation that can transmit diseases such as dengue.

Monterrey has four municipal cemeteries and ten private ones, for which a traffic and surveillance operation will soon be available. It is relevant to remember some recommendations for those visiting the cemeteries, such as respecting construction regulations, appropriate clothing, not removing objects without permission, avoiding littering or damaging the facilities, not bringing food or alcoholic beverages, and refraining from building over the assigned graves more than one meter above ground level.
