The Allegory, the emblematic female figure located at the top of the Arc of Independence in Monterrey, has been removed as part of the restoration process of this iconic monument. This restoration began on September 11, 2023, with the installation of bollards and the elevation of the intersection surface to sidewalk level.

The Arc of Independence, located at the intersection of Pino Suárez and Madero avenues, is one of the most recognized and traditional monuments in Monterrey, in the northern part of the city. Hundreds of people witnessed the removal of the Allegory and shared the moment on social media, generating various comments.

From early hours, the Government of Monterrey initiated an operation at the intersection of Madero and Pino Suárez avenues to carry out the restoration work on the monument. The north side of Madero avenue was closed from Rayón street, while traffic was allowed on the west side lanes of Pino Suárez avenue upon reaching the Arc of Independence. It is estimated that the work will conclude around 3:00 PM.

The Allegory, a 6-meter-high figure with nearly 100 years of age, has been moved to the Lewis Warehouse, where a team of experts will take care of its restoration. It is expected that this process will restore the figure to its original splendor.

The Arc of Independence, which at some point was considered an eyesore, is now projected as a tourist attraction to commemorate the 200 years of Nuevo León and as part of the FIFA Corridor for the 2026 World Cup. As part of the bicentennial celebrations, Governor Samuel García initiated the monument's restoration on February 25, with an investment of 20 million pesos dedicated to these works.

During the event, Governor García highlighted the historical importance of the monument and the vision of those who contributed to the development of Nuevo León. This restoration, in addition to beautifying its surroundings, aims to create a tourist space with green corridors and wide sidewalks for the enjoyment of visitors.
