Alicia Villarreal Files Report After Assault Incident

The singer Martha Alicia Villarreal Esparza, known as Alicia Villarreal, was involved in a recent incident that has generated rumors and concern in the media. According to information revealed by Ana María Alvarado in a live transmission of Sale El Sol, it was indicated that Cruz Martínez, Alicia Villarreal's ex-partner, allegedly tried to assault her during a discussion motivated by jealousy. It is reported that at one point Cruz Martínez attempted to choke the singer, who managed to evade him and ask her sister for help, who took her to the hospital. At the health center, Alicia Villarreal gave her testimony and filed a complaint about the incident.

In the midst of this difficult moment, Alicia Villarreal has turned to social media to raise awareness about violence against women. The artist shared a story in which she reposts a photograph showing the sign of distress designed by the Canadian Women’s Foundation in 2020, a gesture that allows women to communicate that they are in danger due to violence without needing to say words. The post includes hashtags such as "8M International Women’s Day", "#YouAreNotAloneAlicia", "#WeAreMore1" and "#EndTheSilence", as well as an image with a characteristic purple background of the feminist movement.

Alicia Villarreal had previously raised alarms regarding violent situations. During a performance in February, the singer had already expressed being a victim of violence by her then-husband. Currently, Cruz Martínez has been accused of assaulting Alicia Villarreal, and the corresponding complaint has been filed with the Attorney General's Office of Nuevo León.

Due to the media uproar generated, Alicia Villarreal has preferred to refrain from providing further details about what happened in order not to interfere with the ongoing investigations. Nevertheless, the singer has reaffirmed her statement to the authorities at the Attorney General’s Office.
