This year, in Mexico, favorable conditions for the spread of dengue have arisen, which has been enhanced by humidity, heat, and the type of circulating virus. According to the most recent epidemiological report, Jalisco leads the nation with 11,238 cases, followed by Nuevo León with 6,349. Veracruz ranks third with 6,005 and Guerrero is in fourth place with 5,952.
Following in the list of cases are Morelos (5,817), Michoacán (5,189), Nayarit (4,408), Colima (4,132), Chiapas (4,020), and Puebla closes the top 10 with 3,802 reported cases.
At the municipal level, in Nuevo León, Monterrey is the city with the highest incidence of dengue, totaling 1,258 cases, followed by Guadalupe with 636 and San Nicolás with 524, displacing Santa Catarina from third place.
Alma Rosa Marroquín, head of Health in the state, has emphasized that despite five weeks of decline in cases, the alert has been maintained since May, when an international and regional alert was declared. She explained that the serotype of the present virus is particularly aggressive, but fortunately, cases are decreasing.
The trend in Nuevo León shows an increase of 577 cases in one week, despite the fumigation and cleaning campaigns carried out in several municipalities. Nevertheless, the figures from the Federal Health Secretariat do not match the state information, which identified week 35 as the highest peak of cases.
