Establishment of the Municipal Civil Protection Council

In Monterrey, the Municipal Council for Civil Protection was established, which guarantees the necessary coordination to face emergencies and risk situations. The main objective is to prevent and address any contingencies that may arise in the city. The action was carried out by Mayor Adrián de la Garza, who seeks to ensure preparedness for unforeseen situations.

Present at the signing of the founding act were Eduardo Sánchez Quiroz, general commissioner of the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection, and César Garza Villarreal, secretary of the City Council. With the creation of this council, legal certainty is offered to the actions of the authority in extraordinary or dangerous situations for the population. There is also the Technical Committee for Hydrometeorological Contingencies, made up of officials from various municipal agencies.

The mayor emphasized that the protection of citizens is the priority, followed by the preservation of their assets. The importance of establishing the council was stressed so that the Secretariat of Security, in charge of Civil Protection, can carry out the corresponding actions during winter seasons or in the event of any eventuality in Monterrey. The council's work also includes promoting the culture of Civil Protection and the active participation of citizens, as well as the social, public, private, and academic sectors.

Among the functions of the Municipal Council for Civil Protection are: identifying and analyzing the risks that affect municipal security, proposing strategies to confront those risks, fostering citizen participation in defining actions, linking the Municipal Civil Protection System with other local and state systems, monitoring the application of assigned resources, establishing a monitoring system for the Municipal Civil Protection Program, and coordinating with the Health Sector to act effectively in the event of a disaster. Additionally, the council can issue certificates of authorization to volunteer groups.
