Nuevo León Advances in Appointment of Justice Prosecutor

In the session on Monday in the Congress of Nuevo León, white smoke is expected regarding the 2025 Budget and the appointment of the State Justice Prosecutor. Javier Flores, former State Attorney, is the main candidate to occupy the position of prosecutor, which has been vacant since Gustavo Adolfo Guerrero's resignation 28 months ago. It has been mentioned that both the Executive and Legislative powers agree with this appointment due to Flores' experience and background.

Javier Flores served as Deputy Attorney General in 2011 and later held the position of Attorney General after Adrián de la Garza resigned, as he ran for the mayoralty of Monterrey.

The coordinators of the legislative groups of PAN, PRI, and PRD have requested information from the Legal Directorate of the Congress to understand the necessary steps to carry out the appointment of the Justice Prosecutor. Heriberto Treviño Cantú, coordinator of the PRI, called on his colleagues to seek a legal route that allows progress in this process.

"We recognize the work done by Pedro Arce, but we believe it is necessary to have a head of the Prosecutor's Office who is officially appointed," Treviño stated.

Carlos de la Fuente, coordinator of the PAN, emphasized that the necessary conditions exist to proceed with the appointment of the prosecutor and expressed optimism that no legal obstacles will arise.

On her part, Perla Villarreal, coordinator of the PRD, stressed the urgency of having a head for the Prosecutor's Office in a state with high insecurity rates. She expressed confidence that with the willingness of all coordinators, an agreement will be reached, although she acknowledged that the process is long and delicate.
