Key Agreements in Nuevo León Budget Negotiations

The Nuevo León Congress is set to approve a historic budget of over 10.1 billion pesos amidst intense political negotiations between parties, including the PRI and PAN.

Key Agreements in Nuevo León Budget Negotiations

The state government of Nuevo León has reached key agreements involving a debt of 8,000 million pesos, as well as 2,100 million allocated for Water and Drainage. More resources have been allocated for autonomous powers, with 1,700 million for municipalities and attorney's offices in the region, for the PRI-PAN.

The political key to this agreement lies in the closer relationship between the state PAN and the Palacio de Cantera, in line with what is happening at the national level, where the PAN considers advancing electoral agreements with Movimiento Ciudadano, sidelining the PRI due to the negatives associated with this last political force.

Amid these agreements, a call was mentioned between treasurer Carlos Garza and central figures from the CEN albiazul, in the context of Samuel García. On the other hand, legislative sources indicate that the 4T did not obtain specific benefits from this agreement, although it participated as an intermediary in the negotiations.

The day these negotiations began was characterized by key gestures from the Palacio de Cantera. Pending attorney's offices and the state audit were approved, granting PRI-PAN profiles to hold these relevant positions. Additionally, the property tax increases in Monterrey were released, in a positive gesture towards Mayor Adrián de la Garza, with whom there had been a dispute.

On the political front, the swift appointment of the state attorney was requested, intending to impose former ally of Rodrigo Medina, Javier Flores Saldivar. The agreed debt increase will be primarily allocated to general expenses and the new Metrorrey Lines, as well as the parastatal Water and Drainage.

This agreement has been the subject of disputes in the Congress of Nuevo León between MC and PRI-PAN, who will ultimately approve the 2025 Budget. It is expected that the session to discuss this budget may last up to six hours, not excluding the appointment of the attorney, which would turn the day into a marathon session.

Amid these negotiations, Morena has mediated for the vice attorney, Luis Orozco, to be appointed to the position, as he is a figure with a good relationship with all factions and experience in the role. The opposition will also receive considerable resources in the bodies they manage, such as the Human Rights Commission and the Judiciary.
