Murat Hinojosa's Appointment Raises Doubts Over His PRI Past

Senator Alejandro Murat Hinojosa was appointed to lead elections in Nuevo León, but his past in the opposition party and ties to the mayor of Monterrey raise questions for supporters of the ruling 4T coalition.

Murat Hinojosa's Appointment Raises Doubts Over His PRI Past

Following the redistribution of electoral districts within the National Executive Committee of Morena, Senator Alejandro Murat Hinojosa was tasked with managing the gubernatorial elections in Nuevo León. However, his past in the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI) has brought some alliances to light, such as with the Escobedo Group or Senator Judith Díaz, though these have not yet materialized into territorial operations. But the connection that is currently raising doubts across the state's 4T movement, due to his PRI background, is with the mayor of Monterrey and the main opposition candidate for governor, Adrián de la Garza. It is recalled as a key precedent that Murat Hinojosa, as governor of Oaxaca for the PRI, visited to support De la Garza when he took the Monterrey election to court, which was resolved in an extraordinary manner in December 2018. His recent past in PRI is already causing concern within the Monterrey 4T movement. According to information from LPO, within Morena Nuevo León, Murat Hinojosa is seen as a neutral profile, without close ties to any of the many local 4T internal groups. His support went beyond a public endorsement; he is said to have promoted litigators close to him to help the 'tricolor' (PRI) retain the capital against the PAN. This good relationship between the future Morena delegate in Nuevo León and the state's main opposition figure adds to the tension that has been generated by De la Garza Santos' closeness to various government figures, mainly at the federal level. It should be remembered that in 2021, the Morena delegate in Nuevo León was the current governor of Hidalgo, Julio Menchaca, who did not deliver the best results by ceding electoral operations to the same candidates, primarily to the flagship figure of Clara Luz Flores. In contrast, they believe that Alejandro Murat will manage the process more effectively, although doubts remain about his ties to the PRI.
