The comedian Platanito, known for his controversial humor, won a legal battle related to a joke he made about Debanhi Escobar, a young woman who died in Monterrey. Debanhi's father, Mario Escobar, filed a lawsuit accusing the comedian of mocking his daughter, which generated criticism and uproar in the country.

In his defense, Platanito clarified that his joke was not making fun of Debanhi's death but of the government verdict claiming that she died of drowning in a city where "there is no water," as was stated. After two years of legal battle, Conapred ruled in favor of the comedian in this case.

The incident dates back to 2022 when during a show, Platanito mentioned Debanhi in a joke that caused controversy. After a series of autopsies, it was determined that the young woman died of asphyxiation. The case of Debanhi Escobar, who was 18 years old at the time of her death, became a symbol against violence towards women in Mexico.

Debanhi's death deeply impacted Mexican society, especially feminist movements, which found in her memory a cause for the fight against gender violence. The irregular situation surrounding Debanhi's case sparked a media wave and made her name an emblem of justice and the fight for women's rights in the country.
