
Tigres UANL has announced that player Guido Pizarro will take over as the team's technical director, replacing Veljko Paunovic for the remainder of the 2025 Clausura tournament and the Concacaf Champions Cup. Pizarro's decision to retire as a player was met with great joy by the institution.
In an official statement, the club highlighted Pizarro's career, leadership, and preparation to assume the coaching role. It was mentioned that the Argentine successfully completed his coaching course with the Mexican Football Federation and obtained the Pro License, in addition to completing a Master's in Sports Management at the University of Barcelona.
Guido Pizarro joined Tigres in 2013 at the request of coach Ricardo Tuca Ferretti and quickly became an indispensable player on the team. After a brief stint with Sevilla in 2017, Pizarro returned to Tigres, where he stayed for seven years, achieving significant victories and titles such as four MX Leagues, one MX Cup, three Campeón de Campeones, one Concacaf Champions League, and two Campeones Cups.
The news of Pizarro's retirement as a player and his appointment as technical director has been met with enthusiasm by the Tigres fans, who celebrate the continuity of a club legend in a new role.
