Monterrey faces crucial match against Pumas

After a disappointing exit from the Concacaf Champions, Monterrey's coach Martín Demichelis faces a must-win match against Pumas. A loss could end his tenure.

Monterrey faces crucial match against Pumas

After the failure in the Concacaf Champions Cup, Rayados de Monterrey returns to action this Sunday, March 16. The team will visit the Estadio Olímpico Universitario again to face Pumas UNAM in a match corresponding to matchday 12 of the Clausura 2025.

The painful elimination in the Concachampions at the hands of Vancouver Whitecaps has called into question the continuity of Martín Demichelis as coach of the Monterrey team. The team has also failed to show its best version in the local tournament. The match against Pumas will be crucial for the Argentine coach since a defeat could mean his farewell to the Nuevo León club.

Martín Demichelis, 44 years old, took charge of Monterrey in August of last year. So far, he has managed 33 matches with a record of 14 wins, 11 draws, and 8 losses. However, the results have not met expectations, with key moments such as the defeat against América in the Apertura 2024 final and a poor start in Liga MX this 2025.

Despite having one of the most powerful squads in North America, Rayados has faced significant setbacks during Demichelis's management. The board is already considering possible substitutes such as Xavi Hernández, Santiago Solari, and Julen Lopetegui.

In this match, Demichelis will be obliged to beat Pumas to remain on the bench. Otherwise, he could say goodbye to the team before managing the Club World Cup, one of his main reasons for coming to coach in Mexico.

The match will take place on Sunday, March 16 at Estadio Olímpico Universitario at 6:00 PM, Central Mexico Time. The transmission will be handled by Canal 5 and Vix Premium. Stay tuned to Publimetro México for more information about this match and other sports content.
