Monterrey Mayor Approves New Tigres Stadium Project

The mayor of Monterrey, Adrián de la Garza, approved along with the city council the redefinition of the boundaries between Monterrey and San Nicolás. This is done so that the new territory becomes part of the Autonomous University of Nuevo León (UANL) and the project for the new Tigres stadium can begin.

At the request of Rector Santos Guzmán López, an area of 1,577 linear meters was incorporated into San Nicolás, at the height of Avenues Manuel L. Barragán and Regino Villarreal, next to the Universitario Stadium.

"This is where the new stadium will be built, and part of what is currently a parking lot will be used for construction. And in the area where the current stadium is located, a large parking lot will be built," said the mayor.

This will be submitted to the local congress for approval, which is expected to pass without any opposition.

"It must be very clear that this is a very important investment for the metropolitan area, not just for San Nicolás, the university, and Tigres, but also for Monterrey," added De la Garza. The mayor was accompanied by executives and representative players of the sports team.

As LPO anticipated, after the disagreement between Palacio de Cantera and UANL over the new stadium project, the PRI-PAN opposition seeks to seize the project as a flagship program for 2027.

Although permits have been finalized with the opposition municipalities, those around Daniel Carrillo understand that it is a project that depends entirely on the team's main investor, Cemex.

Parallel to the land cession, the city council approved the 2026 Budget request, which amounts to a total of 10,521 million pesos, including a debt of 728,780 million pesos.
