Sergio Ramos to Leave Monterrey at End of Season

Buenos Aires, November 28 (NA) -- Central defender Sergio Ramos, 39, will be leaving Monterrey in Mexico at the end of the year as he has no intentions of renewing his contract. According to the Argentine News Agency, the historic Real Madrid defender would prefer to become a free agent in order to more calmly evaluate the offers he receives to continue his career. The Spaniard, a 2010 World champion in South Africa, played 30 matches for Monterrey and scored seven goals, in addition to facing River Plate at the Club World Cup. In the final years of his sporting career, defender Sergio Ramos has made the decision not to continue playing for Monterrey in the next season. The defender joined the Mexican team in February, surprising everyone by signing with a club outside of Europe for the first time in his career and signing a one-year contract. Contrary to the last years of his career, between the French Paris Saint-Germain and the Spanish Seville, the club that formed him and to which he returned in 2023, Ramos did not have major injury problems with the North American team, missing only 12 games since his arrival. The defender who was captain and an icon of Real Madrid made the decision with his team in the quarterfinals of the Apertura tournament, for which they qualified by finishing fifth in the regular phase, and having defeated America 2-0 in the first leg. With his future open and being the dream of several clubs, Sergio Ramos will complete the season and begin to define his future, with retirement far from his considerations at 39 years old.
