Reviving the Festival: Verónica Bernal's Vision

Verónica Bernal has taken charge of the Festival de Música de Morelia, restoring its financial health and planning future events. Her leadership aims to enhance the festival's reputation while maintaining key partnerships. Despite budget constraints, Bernal is committed to fostering cultural diversity and equity through music.

Reviving the Festival: Verónica Bernal's Vision

Verónica Bernal took over the Morelia Music Festival after the death of the artistic director, Javier Álvarez. Bernal, granddaughter of Miguel Bernal Jiménez, a famous Mexican composer, took the reins of the event named after her grandfather during a financial crisis. The director managed to stabilize the festival’s finances, holding two successful editions in one year, one in summer and another in November, both with 70 percent attendance.

Bernal was awarded a scholarship to participate in a creative leadership program in Edinburgh, which provided her with tools to carry out the festival. Despite the financial challenges facing culture, Verónica does not rest in her efforts to maintain and enhance the reputation of the Morelia Music Festival. She convinced authorities and businesspeople to rescue the Conservatory of Las Rosas, giving new momentum to cultural heritage.

The festival, funded by public and private sources, has Verónica Bernal as director for a second time. Bernal has tirelessly worked to promote music and the arts in Michoacán, inspired by her grandfather and her love for music. Despite the obstacles, her passion and dedication have consolidated the Morelia Music Festival as one of the most prestigious in Mexico.

Throughout her career, Verónica Bernal has demonstrated her commitment to the festival and culture, always seeking to innovate and create a positive impact on society. Her focus on equity, diversity, and the promotion of new talents has made her a leader in the cultural field. Despite the challenges, Verónica does not give up and continues to work to make the Morelia Music Festival a renowned event internationally.
