The Attorney General's Office of the Republic (FGR) has initiated an investigation following the dissemination of a video on social media in which the mayors of Cuautla and Atlatlahucan, in Morelos, are seen participating in a meeting with Júpiter Araujo Bernard, known as "El Barbas," who is the plaza leader of the Sinaloa Cartel in the eastern zone of the state.
In the recording, the mayors Jesús Corona Damián and Agustín Toledano Amaro are seen sharing a table with "El Barbas," who has a long firearm between his legs. Alongside him are Samuel Márquez, alias "El Mayor," the current secretary of the City Council of Cuautla, and Jorge Bazán Reyes, a leader of merchants in the region.
The Attorney General of Morelos, Edgar Maldonado Ceballos, stated that the FGR will be responsible for investigating the implicated municipal officials, while the state secretary of government, Juan Salgado Brito, emphasized the importance of conducting a thorough investigation.
"It is the responsibility of each town hall and each individual is responsible for their actions. I believe that it has to be investigated and, according to the results, sanctions should be imposed," expressed the official. The dissemination of this video has generated concern and controversy in the political and social community of Morelos, raising the question of whether the mayors should request a leave of absence amid this scandal.
